Think Tank Tuesday 5/31: When He Won't Commit

What does it mean when a man says he wants to be with a woman but when it's time to commit he's reluctant or just won't do it? Accord to idatedaily.com it means he's really not interested.

Check out the following excerpt:

[There are things about you that he may enjoy (e.g. your conversation, your physique, your sense of humor, etc.), but if you know anything about human beings, it’s that they move quickly on things that they really want.

This is not a “man thing,” this is a human thing. If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Why would any sane person deprive themselves of an opportunity to be with someone they know will bring joy to their lives? It’s because they’re still looking for that individual. And no matter what he says to you ladies, you’re not the one.

I’m sorry. Men will oftentimes sell women a dream to get what they want out of them. Most of the time, the thing they are seeking is sëx. It is up to you, the responsible woman, to discern the benefits you will gain by giving him what he wants. If you know that you want a relationship with him, it’s best that you do not give him what he wants. If you do not want a relationship with him and you want the same thing he wants, then go for it.

Beware though, most women are not biologically wired for casualties as it pertains to intimacy, so when you’re choosing to share your body with a man you’re not interested in building something with, understand that you’re taking a huge risk and may find yourself regretting your decision over time. All causalities do not end in blissful pleasure. Some leave you diseased, heartbroken, and/or running from a crazy wife and/or girlfriend.] source

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the notion that a man who won't commit simply isn't interested or could is there more to it? Was the author's take on the non-committing man oversimplified or spot on?

Think Tank Tuesday 5/17: No One's Laughing At Lynching "Joke"

It's no mystery that teenage boys do stupid things but this takes the cake.

yourblackworld.net reports:

[...a Snapchat image making the rounds on social media is causing an outrage, even as the participants in the image are trying to say that its intent was not to offend.

The image, depicting a Black high school student, in Alabama being “lynched” with a noose by a white peer, is captioned, “treating him right at Curry High.”

Unsurprisingly, this created a firestorm of anger from those both in the community and outside of it, and both students and the one who took the photo were both suspended for the picture.

While the Walker County Public School System did not make a statement, Superintendent Jason Adkins released a statement to WVTM13. It read: “the issue has been dealt with expediently, appropriately and comprehensively. All involved, from the two students in the picture to the one that actually took it have all been disciplined.”] source

What are your thoughts? Have we reached a point where today's youth haven't the slightest care in the world about the trials and tribulations of the African slaves and their descendants in this country? Who or what is to blame for this lack of understanding, empathy and respect for what our ancestors went through?

Think Tank Tuesday 5/10: White Vs Black Anger

kulturekritic.com/ reports:

[Dr. Stacey Patton recently received a significant amount of backlash for her Washington Post piece entitled, “Black America should stop forgiving white racists,” in which she describes the statements of forgiveness given by Sharonda Coleman-Singleton’s children while, “the morgue tag was still on [her] toe…not more than 72 hours after a white terrorist sat inside the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church for an hour watching their mother pray to God.”

Anger is an emotion denied to many Black Americans, with men and women downplaying their anger to prevent being stereotyped as the “angry Black man” or “angry Black woman.” As a recent article on the Grio pointed out, “We [Black people] understand that our outbursts of anger are simply not treated the same as everyone else’s….there’s a very dehumanizing effect at play here.”

No matter what the situation is, Black anger is never viewed as being justified, even, as Dr. Patton puts it, when it’s ” a slaughter of innocents.” In what seems to be an exponentially growing number of cases, victim’s family member’s grief is displayed as a public spectacle all while they are expected to offer America some pathway forward illuminated by the comfort, redemption and forgiveness they offer to white Americans who kill their family members, often with absolutely no consequence.]source

What are your thoughts? Are blacks immediately stereotyped as the "angry black man/woman" even if their anger is justified? Is white anger more acceptable?

Think Tank Tuesday 5/3: Women Stop Chasing Men, You Don't Enjoy The Hunt

Comedian turned relationship guru Steve Harvey has some specific advice for women who are actively searching for a man -- stop! According to Mr. Harvey this exact activity may be why they aren't having any luck with finding a mate.

idatedaily.com reports:

[“I suggest you stop,” he told the packed crowd. “You looking for a man is not going to work because you’re not a hunter,” Harvey explained. According to Harvey, women “don’t even enjoy the hunt,” but men “hunt all day” until they find what they want. While many women balk at Harvey’s advice, he did tell all of the singles everything that they could do to improve their chances at love.

“What you are excellent at is what men are not. You have the ability to attract a man, and you already know how to do that,” he said, explaining women shouldn’t be actively on the prowl for a man. Harvey also took out the time to caution women against being too easily impressed with minimal actions or the attention that a man may give them.

Still, Harvey took on his point again that women should never be looking for a man, because while women have the ability to attract a mate, they “do not have the ability to find one.

What are your thoughts? Has Mr. Harvey shed light on why some women who chase men don't have success at finding one or is he way off base with his advice?
