You Won't Believe What's In A McRib Sandwich!

Who's in the mood for some azodicarbonamide? How about some ammonium sulfate? Or what about polysorbate 80? Anyone? You're probably wonder what those substances are? They're actually just 3 of the 34 chemicals that make up a McRib's bun (70 chemicals in the total sandwich). Time Healthland reports:

"These components are in small enough quantities to be innocuous. But it's still a little disconcerting to know that, for example, azodicarbonamide, a flour-bleaching agent that is most commonly used in the manufacture of foamed plastics like in gym mats and the soles of shoes, is found in the McRib bun. The compound is banned in Europe and Australia as a food additive. (England's Health and Safety Executive classified it as a "respiratory sensitizer" that potentially contributes to asthma through occupational exposure.) The U.S. limits azodicarbonamide to 45 parts per million in commercial flour products, based on analysis of lab testing."

The Most Germ Infested Thing We Touch

The gas pump believe it or not has been labeled the "biggest biohazard in modern society" by a University of Arizona microbiologist. Autoblog reports:

"According to The Los Angeles Times, the doctor's research results show 71 percent of gas pump handles are "'highly contaminated' with the kinds of germs most associated with a high risk of illness." Other highly-contaminated items we encounter on an everyday basis include public mailboxes, ATM machines and escalators."

The moral of the story is wash your damn hands!

When his 3 year old step daughter refused to eat a hot dog, Corey Daniels, beat her with his fist and whipped over 36 times with a belt. Minority Children Targeted By Beverage Companies

Yale's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity released a report stating beverage companies have been targeting black and Hispanic children and teens with their ads for sugary drinks. These ad campaigans include soda, fruit juice, sports drinks, etc. Look at these figures:

"...children and teens were exposed to double the amount of television ads for full-calorie and sugary beverages from 2008 to 2010. The study also reported that black children and teens saw 80- to 90 percent more ads compared with whites, including more than twice as many ads for Sprite, Mountain Dew, 5-hour Energy, and Vitamin Water. Hispanic children saw 49 percent more ads for sugary drinks and energy drinks, with Hispanic preschoolers seeing more ads for Coca-Cola Classic, Kool-Aid, 7 Up and Sunny Delight than their older counterparts."

According to Libyan Officials Qaddafi is dead. Here is what the NY Times reported:

"Officials of the Transitional National Council told reporters later Thursday that Colonel Qaddafi had been killed in a crossfire when a gunfight erupted between his captors and his supporters in Surt — making the argument that he was not killed intentionally. Forensics experts outside of Libya who viewed photographs of the bullet wound to his head, said it appeared to have been caused by a small handgun."

Real Love: Couple Married For 72 Years Die Holding Hands

This story is for all the people that go around using the word love loosely. ABC reports:

"A devoted Iowa couple married for 72 years died holding hands in the hospital last week, exactly one hour apart.

The passing reflected the nature of their marriage, where, "As a rule, everything was done together," said the couple's daughter Donna Sheets, 71.

Gordon Yeager, 94, and his wife Norma, 90, left their small town of State Center, Iowa, on Wednesday to go into town, but never made it. A car accident sent the couple to the emergency room and intensive care unit with broken bones and other injuries. But, even in the hospital, their concerns were each other.

"She was saying her chest hurt and what's wrong with Dad? Even laying there like that, she was worried about Dad," said the couple's son, Dennis Yeager, 52. "And his back was hurting and he was asking about Mom."

When it became clear that their conditions were not improving, the couple was moved into a room together in beds side-by-side where they could hold hands.

"They joined hands; his right hand, her left hand," Sheets said.

Gordon Yeager died at 3:38 p.m. He was no longer breathing, but the family was surprised by what his monitor showed."

Mother Loses Life, Saves Daughter's

A 33 year old woman lost her life when she tried to cross train tracks when her 2 year old daughter's stroller got stuck in the tracks. She was able to get the stroller free and push it out of harms way, but she couldn't save herself.

Teacher's Aide Tapes Student's Mouth Closed

An Athens, Georgia teacher's aide is in big trouble for taping a student's mouth closed with packing tape when the girl wouldn't be quite. The incident was immediately reported to school officials and the teacher's aide was put on leave. The Huffington Post reports:

"Although the little girl pulled the tape off within seconds, the classroom teacher reported the incident to school administrators.

School officials informed the child's parents of what had happened and the disciplinary actions they took.

Currently, Georgia is one of only 19 states that allow corporal punishment, but that could change soon, the Independent Mail reported. A bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of New York last week aims to ban "paddling, spanking, or other forms of physical punishment, however light, imposed upon a student."

Under the proposal, states that do not ban corporal punishment could face losing federal funding for their schools."

Here's what the Washington Post reports:

"A sign in front of the eatery displays a picture of President Obama wearing a Colonel Sanders-style bowtie and suspenders and a tag­line that reads, “We so cool, aren’t we?,” according to the Shanghaiist.

A KFC China spokesperson told BlogPost via email that the restaurant is not affiliated with the brand.

“We’re considering legal action as it is a knock-off and has nothing to do with us and it infringes on our brand trademark,” the statement said. “We find it distasteful.”

“It’s insulting, offensive and plays to racial stereotypes,” the Rev. Al Sharpton said of the shop to the New York Post. “What makes it even worse is that when we deal with this global competition between the U.S. and China, for them to be mocking the leader of the free world, I find it even more appalling.”

The Daily Mail hypothesized that the sign may be a reaction to the U.S filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization against China for placing tariffs on imported American chickens."

Mother Crashes Car, Tries To Throw Son Over 10 Foot Fence

WTSP reports:

"SPARTANBURG, SC (AP) - Spartanburg County deputies say a woman who saw a mother try to throw her 4-year-old child over a fence after wrecking her car managed to talk the woman out of hurting her son.

Investigators say 25-year-old Nikki Settle was driving under the influence around 10 p.m. Wednesday when she crashed her car on Interstate 26.

A witness says she then saw Settle cross the highway and walk up a hill with her son and try to throw the boy over a fence. She talked Settle out of hurting her son until deputies could arrive.

Authorities say the boy was turned over to his grandmother."

This is a messed up situation no matter how you look at it. Anyway you slice it someone is going to lose. If it's true Busta Rhymes loses and the accuser loses (she already lost in my opinion). If it's not true the accuser loses and faces a lawsuit and Busta Rhymes loses because his image is still tarnished.

Would You Buy Your Momma A House

I just read an interesting article, and when you get a chance you should read it too. The idea behind the article and title of this blog entry is if you are successful and have money should it be your burden to help your family (immediate and/or extended)?

The article uses Terrell Owens as an example. He's been blessed with athletic abilities and talents that's made him millions in the NFL and allows him the means to take care of his intermediate family and kids. If you're blessed and can be a blessing to others, should your success automatically translate to you supporting friends, family (immediate and/or extended)? When is it right to help and should that help be continuous?

Personally I'd support my immediate family because they've always helped me....but as far as extended family, I'll leave it as this...If a family member asks for help I'll help them, but if they come back asking for more help I'll teach them how to help themselves.

Isaiah Mustafa Infuriates Black Folk

For many who might not know, Isaiah Mustafa is the black brother known for his funny Old Spice commercials. Recently he sent the internet in an uproar with comments he made during an interview with Giuliana Rancic on E! News.

The comments that landed him in hot water were in response to Giuliana's question about what he looks for in a relationship? He stated that whoever he ends up with has to have "good hair." Then commented on his own hair being "too nappy."

These comments had the internet in an uproar and Isaiah took to twitter to smooth things over,

"I want 2 apologize wholeheartedly 2 anyone out there who was offended or hurt by the irresponsible comments I made on E! News. #ignorant"

Personally I think the whole good hair vs nappy hair debate is foolish and needs to die along with the light skinned vs dark skinned nonsense; but I'm curious, is the reason people got upset really about the comments, or because they were made to someone outside of the black community on show that gets widespread attention?
