WTH Files: U.S. Deep Freezing Illegals?

You hear stories about illegal immigrants apprehended while attempting to cross the U.S. border, but you never hear what happens after they're caught. If you've ever wondered what happens once illegals are caught you better read this!

[Las hieleras, or “the freezers,” is how immigrants and some Border Patrol agents refer to the chilly holding cells at many stations along the U.S.-Mexico border. The facilities are used to house recently captured border crossers until they can be transferred to a long-term Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility, returned to their native country or released until their immigration hearing.

According to interviews and court documents, many immigrants have been held for days in rooms kept at temperatures so low that men, women and children have developed illnesses associated with the cold, lack of sleep, overcrowding, and inadequate food, water and toilet facilities. These complaints are backed up by anonymous surveys of recent migrants. A 2011 report (PDF) from the advocacy group No More Deaths, for example, found that about 7,000 of nearly 13,000 immigrants interviewed reported inhumane conditions in Border Patrol cells—with about 3,000 of them saying they suffered extreme cold.

The treatment of migrants in these facilities has been muted in the roiling debate in Congress over expanding the Border Patrol and overhauling the nation’s immigration system. But for thousands of men and women, the facilities have provided a harsh official greeting after what they thought would be the hardest part of their journey, crossing the border.]source:  thedailybeast.com

When Larrinecia Parker left for church with her kids, she knew something was wrong when her husband Reverend Terry Parker, Jr. didn't show up to church to preach, little did she know that day was the last time she would see him alive:

WTH Files: Alexander McQueen Store Slapped With Discrimination Lawsuit

Yet another story about discrimination at a high-end store:

[Moselle Blanco, a 43-year-old Hispanic woman and former saleswoman from the West 14th Street boutique in NYC's trendy Meatpacking District, is now slapping the high-end British fashion house with a racial discrimination lawsuit.

The Manhattan civil suit, which was filed last Wednesday, contests that Blanco's boss, Max Cantey, not only called her names but also subjected her “to a persistent barrage of offensive comments based on her race and national origin.”

In one instance, Blanco recalled Cantey telling her that “she had greasy hands like a Mexican and that he did not want any product to ‘get messy.’” She also said she was falsely accused of stealing and using cocaine at work.]source: huffingtonpost.com

How can people who share an island and a common ancestry be treated so vastly different? Children born to Haitian immigrants may be prevented from receiving citizenship and potentially be deported creating a major humanitarian crisis despite their parents citizenship status:

[Almost 20 of the most prominent Latino political and civil rights organizations in the United States signed an open letter to Dominican President Danilo Medina Sánchez on Monday, asking him to block the implementation of a Constitutional Court ruling that would deprive Dominican-born children of Haitian immigrants from receiving citizenship.

The ruling stands to leave as many as 200,000 people stateless, according to the Open Society Justice Initiative.

“If implemented, the court’s decision stands to cause a humanitarian crisis, potentially leaving hundreds of thousands of people stateless, facing mass deportation and discrimination,” the letter signed by the Hispanic Federation, Latino Justice PRLDEF and the League of United Latin American Citizens, among others, says. “We respectfully request that you act immediately to stop the implementation of this ruling.”

Haitian immigrants and their children have found themselves in legal limbo for years in the Dominican Republic. The two countries share the island of Hispañola, and as many as half a million people of Haitian descent now reside in the Dominican Republic. In Aug. 2004, the Dominican Republic did away with birthright citizenship and applied the new law retroactively to Dominican-born descendants of Haitian immigrants -- regardless of their parents' legal status. Non-Muslims Targeted In London

Three Muslim men attempted to enforce Sharia Law by harassing and threatening to do bodily harm to non-believers in London:

[Three men have pleaded guilty to related charges after self-proclaimed “Muslim Patrols” attacked, intimidated and threatened to stab members of the public in an area of London that hosted the 2012 Olympic Games.

Ricardo McFarlane, 26, a Muslim convert, pleaded guilty to affray—fighting in a public place—on Monday, while a 23-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, entered a guilty plea for two public order offenses. They refused instructions to stand in court as the indictments were read out. Last month, Jordan Horner, a red-headed, white 19-year-old, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and the use of threatening words and behavior.

McFarlane and Horner admitted taking part in an attack on January 6 this year when a group of five men were approached at around 4 am while enjoying a night out in the East End of London. They had cans of beer snatched from their hands and poured out. A previous hearing was told that Horner said: “Why are you poisoning your body? It is against Islam. This is Muslim Patrol.
