Slay Your Biggest Giant

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly." -Marcus Tullius Cicero

If a thriving nation is the result of its citizens working on one accord for the betterment of the nation, then a successful person is the result of a healthy mindset produced by positive thoughts. Positive thoughts act as the mind's "citizens" producing and reinforcing a healthy mindset. The healthy mindset is how you view yourself based on your own set of values, accomplishments and experiences. The goal simply put is continual self growth. When our minds are optimized to have a positive self image it's almost impossible for an outside force to alter what the mind has established, however; it's the unseen enemy that lurks inside each one of us that can tear down in a matter of minutes what it may have taken years to develop.

The enemy within is the most insidious you will ever encounter. It knows your habits, short comings, insecurities, and fears and seeks to exploit them all. Unlike external threats such as haters, this enemy can halt and prevent a person's journey to success and happiness, and it does all this with it's one and only weapon -- self defeating thoughts.

This enemy is your Goliath -- a giant standing in the way of everything you desire. Who or what is this giant? It's you! Your negative thoughts are your biggest adversary capable of doing the most debilitating damage to yourself. Stephen Bardo once stated in a leadership meeting that each one of us has a little recording in our minds that constantly plays affecting and threatening our self image, self worth, success and happiness. That recording plays every negative word spoken about us, every thought of failure we might have experience, every fear we have but the most detrimental of "recordings" are the ones picked up during our youth by the most influential people in our lives. "You're just like your no good father/mother", "you'll never amount to anything", "I thought you'd be more than what you are" are a few examples of things parents have told their children that have mentally crippled them in some cases forever. Those foundational years of life is where a lot of our mental "recordings" originated. Those thoughts secretly grow and morph into giants that act as gatekeepers to your own success and happiness.

Since the threat is coming from within, it bypasses your defenses and doesn't show up on your radar and that's what makes it so egregious. Those thoughts seem as if they are you're own but in reality they are someone else's opinion about you which you have adopted and accepted as your truth. Why else can see gifted people operating below their abilities, or someone capable of running their own business complacent in a dead end job, or someone who desires to be loved sabotage their own relationships.

This week your challenge is to SLAY -- YOUR -- BIGGEST -- GIANT! Whatever it may be it must die!  Sharpen your swords, put stones in your sling, etc., whatever it takes to bring it down that's what you're going to have to be willing to do. Maybe your giant is someone else's opinion of you, or maybe it's the fear of failure. Despite what it may be, your freedom relies on your ability to thrust your sword deep into it's heart killing it once and for all.
