Native Lives Matter: Police Killing Native Americans at Astounding Rate

Looks like black folk aren't the only one's being killed by police at an alarming rate. Check out this report on Native American deaths caused by the police:

[A recent report by the Center for Juvenile and Criminal Justice reports that Native Americans are killed by police at a higher rate than any other ethnic group.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that Native Americans make up almost two percent of those killed by police though they are only 0.8 percent of the population.

While police kill young black men more than any other group, they kill Native Americans at a higher rate. As with African Americans, these killings are not isolated from the larger problem of police and societal violence, as this devastating article in Counterpunch discusses in the particular context of New Mexico, which in 2014 had the highest rate of police killing in the country.

That article reports that “according to a 2003 study by the New Mexico Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Native people experience ‘acts of ethnic intimidation; threats of physical violence, assaults, and other potential hate crimes’ as part of everyday life in border towns like Gallup, Farmington and Albuquerque.”] Read more here!

Think Tank Tuesday 7/28: Fast Food Business In God's House?

A Pastor decided to open a Subway sandwich shop in his church to address the needs of people in the community. Feeling the shop would provide needed training and jobs he went forward with buying into the franchise and putting it in his church.

[Reverend Prigen said, “The reason we actually put it in the church was because there weren’t a lot of opportunities in this neighborhood when I got here. We had a high murder rate, and a lot of people not working. So, a lot of people always talk about, ‘Just give people jobs.’ Well, that’s not the key, if they haven’t been trained.

So we started collecting an offering. We called it a “franchise offering” – literally called it a “franchise offering.” But we’ve got to do more than build a business. We’ve got to train people. We try to push people into the next level of life.”] source

Meeting people's needs is definitely a biblical instruction and principle, but today's think tank question asks whether or not having businesses inside a church is biblical, even if the business helps the community?

What are your thoughts? Would Jesus approve of the Subway shop in God's house or would He reiterate what He stated in Matthew 21:12,13?

Think Tank Tuesday 7/21: White Guy Tells Why "Black America is dangerous"

There's a video on Youtube where a white man declares "black America is dangerous" nothing new right? Wrong! This individual's video isn't your typical racist rant against black people in America, it's an explanation of the hidden power to bring about change that black people possess. Check it out:

What are your thoughts? This isn't the first time we've heard about black people's buying power (Louis Farrakhan spoke about it years ago), but it should be provoking thoughts and stimulating conversation. Will black America finally wake up and use their buying power to lift up their own people, businesses and communities?

Think Tank Tuesday 7/14: No More Hulk Hogan "Brother"

picture source: Hulk Hogan Twitter Page
Terry Bollea bka Hulk Hogan was recently dropped from WWE and his legacy was wiped from the WWE Hall of Fame after news of him using the n-word in an unauthorized audio recording surfaced:

[...The National ENQUIRER and RadarOnline.com – in a joint investigation – has learned that sordid pillow talk caught on an unauthorized sex tape includes a revolting conversation in which the pro wrestling icon unleashed a filthy bigoted attack, littered with the N-word and other disgusting racial insults. The star of the WWE – whose real name is Terry Bollea – directed his vulgar and prejudiced hatred at his daughter Brooke, who he accused of sleeping with a black man. Using language so hate-filled and vile it would shock even his most ardent fans, Hulk brazenly blustered to Heather Clem – the wife of his former pal Bubba “The Love Sponge,” with whom he was covertly filmed having sex with in 2012 – that he was an unabashed “racist."

"I guess we’re all a little racist," he crowed on the tape, multiple sources have confirmed exclusively to The ENQUIRER. Despite his TV image as a born-again Christian, the tapes prove that Hulk is a very different man off camera! In a startling exchange, the 61-year-old told Clem – who he sued for invasion of privacy after their XXX tape was leaked to a website – about his frustrations with blonde bombshell Brooke, 27.

"She is making some real bad decisions now," Hulk said, sources tell us. "My daughter Brooke jumped sides on me. I spent $2-3 million on her music career, I’ve done everything like a jackass for her.” The bitter bodybuilder continued, "The one option Brooke had, Brooke’s career besides me, is [to] sell beach records." At that point on the tape, the former "Hogan Knows Best” star bemoaned how a "black billionaire guy" had offered to fund her music career.

He also attempts to use bizarre, twisted logic in an attempt to justify his bigotry at the man. "I don’t know if Brooke was f*cking the black guy’s son," Hulk raved, the sources add. "I mean, I don’t have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever."

Then, in a tirade to rival the racism embarrassments suffered by Mel Gibson and "Dog The Bounty Hunter," Hulk unloaded even more hatred! According to sources, he said: "I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f*ck some n*gger, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n*gger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player! "I guess we’re all a little racist. Fucking n*gger."] source

What are your thoughts? Obviously Hulk Hogan is a racist pig, but since the conversation was private and recorded without his permission should his WWE legacy be erased? What type of precedence does situations like this and Donald Sterling's set for people who engage in private conversations? Should private conversations in your own home be used against people?

Motivational Mondays 7/13: Never Changes

As we prepare for this week let's appeal to a higher power to help us get through this week and trying times. Sometimes life can get the best of us and make it seem as if we've been thrown into the center of the ocean with no help in sight. This is when we should remember and claim the many promises God has made to us. Unlike man who makes and breaks promises at his leisure, we can trust and believe that every promise God has made to His people He is faithful to keep. The video below sums it up quite nicely:

Think Tank Tuesday 7/7: Was This Judge Right To Lock Up Kids For Not Talking To Their Father?

When 3 children involved in a nasty divorce proceeding refused to have lunch with their father, a judge took it upon herself to teach the kids a lesson by throwing them in a juvenile detention center until they turned 18 or talked to their father -- oh yeah their ages are 9, 10, and 14:

[Oakland Circuit Judge Lisa Gorcyca declared the children of Maya Tsimhoni in contempt of court last month and ordered them held at Oakland County Children’s Village until they attempt to have a relationship with their father or they turn 18.

The three — ages 9, 10, and 14 — have been incarcerated for more than two weeks.

...The children were taken into custody during a June 24 hearing. “I do apologize if I didn’t understand the rules,” said one boy, who turned 14 in custody, “but I do not apologize for not talking to (the father) because I have a reason for that and that’s because he’s violent and I saw him hit my mom and I’m not going to talk to him.”

The father has not been charged with a crime.

Gorcyca called the boy a “defiant, contemptuous young man” and asked him if there was anything he’d like to say about being sent to Children’s Village. “I didn’t do anything wrong,” the boy said. “No, you did,” Gorcyca said.

“I ordered you to talk to your father. You chose not to talk to your father. You defied a direct court order. It’s direct contempt so I’m finding you guilty of civil contempt.” The boy responded: “But he was the one that (did) something wrong. I thought there (were) rules .. for not hitting someone.” “You’re supposed to have a high IQ, which I’m doubting right now because of the way you act,” Gorcyca said.] source

What are your thoughts? Just how far should a judge's authority be allowed to go? Should they be allowed to do like Judge Gorcyca and put children behind bars because the children refuse to talk to their parent? Is this judge right in her decision or is she completely off her rocker? Read more about the case here!
